These news are up to date as on 15th of June.

Starting from my favourite sport, soccer, we shall review every popular sport and I hope you will find here everything you need to know.

Soccer:

Under-21 European championship has started. There are 8 teams taking part in it and they are divided into two groups A and B, with two teams from each group proceeding to semi finals. So far Switzerland has progressed into the semis. Belarus and Denmark have a chance to play the semi finals if any one of them wins their final group match. From the group B Spain is almost through with England and Czech Republic fighting for the final semi final spot. By the time this gets published, U-21’s will be over and I predict Spain and England to be my finalists with Spain winning the championships.
Transfer window is open and the Giants of Europe are busy strengthening their squads. Here’s a summary of recent transfers.
1) Phil Jones , the young centre back and star of Blackburn rovers was bought by Manchester United last week.
2) Brad Fiedel, former Aston Villa, Blackburn and Liverpool goal keeper joined Tottenham Hotspurs on a free transfer.
3) Udinese’s Alex Sanchez, Spur’s Luca Modric and Brazilian Neymar are in the most wanted list of the Europe’s top clubs.

Cricket:

Shahid Afridi , the most popular cricketer of his generation has withdrawn his petition against the PCB in Sindh High Court. He will now appear before the Board’s disciplinary committee. The issue seems to be resolved now after Ijaz Butt met Shahid Afridi. PCB will hopefully issue NOC to Shahid Afridi that will allow him to play for Hampshire county.
Third test between Srilanka and England starts from 16th june in Rose Bowl. It will be the first test ever at the said venue. England are leading the series 1-0 and are expected to win the third test too. Srilanka will be without their captain Tillakartne Dilshan and Kumar Sangakara will act as temporary captain for the match. Rose Bowl will become the 10th British test ground with 9 being still active.

Tennis:

Rafael Nadal has been named as top seed of the upcoming Wimbledon in men’s draws with Roder Federer as the second seed. It is the first time since 2003 that Federer has not been named the top seed. Nadal, fresh winner of the French open and Djokiwich are favourites with Federer always the best bet for Wimbledon. Caroline Wozniacki tops the women’s list. Wimbledon starts from 20th June.
